FEDERICO MOMPOU 1893-Pianist, Composer Born in Barcelona, he studied under F. Motte Lacroix but was mainly self-taught. His first attempts date from 1900 and he described his music by the term “primivista”. His style is Catalonian, where musicians are full of quaint simplicities of the 15th century. It was Paris that first recognized Mompou’s genius and praised his music for its exquisite subtlety and delicate line of melody. This Spaniard works in a magical way to reach out to the regions of our subconscious. His songs are a reaction to a mechanized world.
